New Violet Benchmarks for Neurodivergent, Rural, and Veteran patient care

New Violet Benchmarks for Neurodivergent, Rural, and Veteran patient care

Violet Benchmarks were initially created to verify provider capabilities through past clinical experience, education, and self-reported data that demonstrate skill in caring for BIPOC, LGBQ, and TGNC patient populations. These insights have helped health plans and care delivery organizations understand where their networks excel, where additional support or education might be needed, and how to advance person-centered care across their systems.

For health plans and provider organizations, Violet Benchmarks help provide a complete view of each provider’s ability to deliver truly personalized care. For patients, Benchmarks serve as a signal of trust.

Reflecting a broader spectrum of patient experiences.

The latest Violet Benchmarks introduce competencies for Neurodivergent, Veteran, and Rural patient care, recognizing the distinct barriers these groups continue to face in accessing quality, personalized care.

Why these patient populations:

  • Rural patients experience lower rates of preventive care and higher emergency department utilization, as well as higher poverty rates and reduced access to health insurance. Yet many rural communities demonstrate a powerful sense of resilience, independence, and connection—a “rural code” rooted in self-sufficiency and mutual support. Understanding both the barriers and the strengths that define rural life is essential to delivering effective care.
  • Veterans face elevated risks of chronic pain and musculoskeletal conditions alongside persistent stigma and lower help-seeking behavior for mental health support. That’s why it’s essential to have providers who understand veterans’ needs and respect their experiences.
  • Neurodivergent patients, including individuals with ADHD, autism, or dyslexia, report higher unmet healthcare needs and lower overall mental wellbeing. Understanding how neurodivergent individuals experience health care environments is critical to closing these gaps.

Expanding our definition of care readiness.

Violet’s expanded framework now recognizes more patient identities within our verification and public-facing badging. Patients gain more choice in finding providers who meet their needs, while organizations get a clearer view of how well their networks serve diverse populations.

As our framework has evolved, so has the language we use to describe it. Terms like cultural competence and inclusive were once useful in capturing how providers adapt care to different backgrounds and perspectives. But as Violet’s scope has grown, that language no longer reflects the full range of provider capabilities we measure. Our expanded Benchmarks offer a more comprehensive way to evaluate provider skills and readiness across the many factors that shape patient care and experience.

Updates to Violet Verification.

To align with this evolution, we’ve also refreshed our public-facing verification badges for both providers and organizations.

  • The Verified Inclusive Provider designation is now Violet Verified Provider, with added context specifying which patient population the provider has verified competency in.
  • The Verified Inclusive Organization designation is now Violet Verified Health Organization.

These updates don’t change the criteria for getting verified. They simply reflect the broader scope of Violet’s Benchmarks and our continued commitment to advancing measurable, effective personalized care.

What this means for providers.

For providers, these new Benchmarks mean greater recognition for the care you already deliver and clearer pathways to growth. Each Benchmark you earn not only reflects your professional credibility but also helps close persistent gaps in care by guiding patients toward providers best suited to meet their needs.

  • New providers will be asked to share any prior clinical experience or training related to working with Rural, Neurodivergent, or Veteran patients, along with information about your confidence level and any relevant lived experience. This information helps us generate accurate Benchmarks for these newly added populations.
  • If you’re already active on Violet, you’ll notice a refreshed dashboard with new sections for these Benchmarks. We invite you to visit your profile and add more context about your experience with these patient groups. The more you share, the more accurately your Benchmarks will reflect the full breadth of your experience.

Expanding the Violet library.

We’re proud to share that our CE/CME-accredited course library will continue to grow with new education focused on these patient populations. We’re committed to giving providers the tools to expand their skills and improve their Benchmarks over time.

You’ll also find courses on topics such as disabilities and ableism, substance use disorder, human trafficking, and caring for aging populations. In addition, we’re making a few updates to how courses are organized in Violet, making it easier for providers to find specific education that supports improving their Benchmark for a given population.

Violet Assistant, our AI-powered companion within the platform, can help you locate the right courses, find ready-to-use care resources and templates, and get clear steps to improve your Benchmarks.

What this means for Provider Organization and Network Admin.

Administrators across our partnering care delivery organizations and health plans will see updated dashboards and insights beginning in early 2026. As Violet introduces new patient populations and data, our goal is to deliver a seamless, intuitive experience that helps every partner see their network, and their opportunities for improvement, more clearly.

These enhancements deepen how Violet measures and represents provider experience across historically underserved populations. Our benchmarking framework combines verified provider data with proprietary claims analysis, integrating procedural and diagnostic codes to assess how care is being delivered across an entire network. This dual approach allows organizations to understand provider experience even before individual clinicians join Violet or update their profiles.

Using these insights, leaders can pinpoint strengths, identify where additional education could close care gaps, and align development efforts with organizational goals for quality and equity improvement. Over time, this shared visibility turns data into action, helping organizations deliver care that’s more consistent, responsive, and aligned with the needs of every patient.

Our mission in action.

Our mission remains clear: to help providers, organizations, and health plans deliver care that is informed, responsive, and grounded in understanding. By expanding our Benchmarks and refining how we recognize provider experience and ongoing efforts toward a more equitable health care system, we’re making it easier for patients to find the right care and for organizations to see where their networks can grow.
