Meridian partners with Violet to improve rural health care and advance equity across Illinois

We’re excited to announce our new partnership with Meridian Health Plan of Illinois, a joint initiative designed to improve health outcomes, reduce total cost of care, and expand access to person-centered care for rural and diverse populations across the state.

Meridian has long focused on closing access gaps for Illinois residents, especially in rural regions where provider shortages and limited resources make high-quality care harder to reach. Through this partnership, Meridian and Violet are working together to better equip providers with the tools and training they need to serve these communities effectively, while also strengthening care delivery for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, & People of Color), LGBQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Queer), TGNC (Transgender & Gender non-conforming), Neurodivergent, Veteran, and other historically underserved populations.

Partnership details

As part of this partnership, Violet will:

  • Provide in-network providers with unlimited access to Violet’s CE/CME-accredited clinical education library, including targeted courses on rural health, chronic condition management, cancer screenings, and equitable use of Z-codes.
  • Map and report on Meridian’s provider network composition and capabilities using Violet Benchmarks to assess alignment with the diversity of patient populations served and identify areas for growth.
  • Deliver real-time reporting on education completions and competency progress to inform Meridian’s quality improvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with Meridian to measure the financial and clinical impact of provider education with an equity focus.

Driving measurable outcomes

By combining Violet’s benchmarking framework with targeted education, this partnership will directly support Meridian’s quality initiatives. Providers will gain practical tools for addressing inequities in rural communities, managing chronic conditions, screening for cancer with an equity lens, and improving diagnosis and documentation through appropriate SDOH (Social determinants of health) coding.

A shared vision for health equity in Illinois

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment: ensuring that every Illinoisan, whether in rural towns, urban centers, or suburban communities, has access to care that recognizes their identity, responds to their needs, and delivers better outcomes. Together, Meridian and Violet are building a stronger foundation for person-centered care across the state.
