Rebecca Elkin is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Registered Drama Therapist. In her private practice, Rebecca is particularly dedicated to issues of reproductive health and parental mental health. She works with clients towards the destigmatization and processing of issues including miscarriage, nontraditional reproductive paths, infertility, STIs, and postpartum. She especially loves supporting queer families and queer clients looking to address family and relationship dynamics.
Prior to working as a private practice clinician, Rebecca worked for a decade with clients of all ages in an inpatient hospital setting and then within the public school system. In these settings, she has helped helps clients address issues including anxiety, depression, mental health that is impacted by medical issues, bereavement, issues of identity, complex trauma, and issues within relationship dynamics.
Rebecca utilizes an integrative approach to psychotherapy that combines many lenses including but not limited to Insight Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Drama Therapeutic theory. Her goal is to customize a therapeutic approach that is most comfortable and effective for her clients. Rebecca’s utilization of drama therapy can include creative, embodied work if the client is interested, but is more commonly integrated theoretically into general talk therapy. Drama therapeutic role theory looks at the roles we play in our lives and the way they sometimes conflict and butt up against each other. This can be a very effective way to learn about ourselves, unlock patterns that are no longer useful, and grow. The definition of health in this theory is when we are able to tolerate and thrive within the conflicting roles we all balance.
Rebecca strives to support clients in working towards a holistic sense of health and groundedness. Her approach is down-to-earth, strength-based, utilizes humor when appropriate, and emphasizes genuine interpersonal connection with each client. She is passionate about creating a comfortable and validating environment where clients know that they are free to be their most honest and open self.
Rebecca is a therapist through Dwellness, a Brooklyn based group therapy practice that provides in-home therapeutic services to individuals and families across the lifespan via home-based and tele-therapy practices. Dwellness' team of clinicians specialize in different developmental periods and therapeutic techniques, which allows for an individualized treatment approach to address each client’s challenges.
