What's Queer-Competent Care?
Our queer-competent provides possess four key characteristics:
(1) While our providers may or may not be LGTBQ+ themselves, they possess extensive experience working with the LGBTQ+ population, or have made it their clinical specialty.
(2) Our providers have an unconditional, positive regard and support for their patients’ gender identities and sexual orientations.
(3) Our providers integrate minority stress and resilience factors into their treatment, addressing both barriers to treatment and mental health, as well as areas in which patients are thriving.
(4) Our providers incorporate building LGBTQ+ community support systems, as well as positive identity-related activities and growth as part of treatment.
Do you accept insurance?
Like everything insurance, the answer is nuanced. If your insurance company covers out-of-network care, you may be reimbursed up to 90% of your mental healthcare costs. Please see this page for more information on insurance reimbursement.
We're considered an out-of-network provider with insurance companies. Why? Insurance companies heavily negotiate rates with each provider in their network; Violet's queer-competent providers are specialized in serving the queer-community and generally do not participate in insurance networks.
What if I can't afford therapy?
We're building Violet to support our community -- the queer community. If you're unable to afford our rates, please reach out to us and we'll find you an affordable provider. Ultimately, we want everyone to be able to access mental healthcare at affordable rates.
Can I pay with an HSA or FSA?
Yes! All of our services are provided by clinicians and can be paid for using a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
Will you find me a unique therapist?
Yes! Being queer ourselves, we know how important it is to find the perfect therapist for our needs. We'll sift through our network of providers and their networks to find the best therapist for you. Send us an email with your request for your a specific therapist.
Are sessions online or in-person?
Our sessions are typically 45-minutes long and can be conducted online or in-person. We believe that adherence to healthcare is more important than the delivery medium; consequently, we offer a fluid experience between online and in-person sessions.
